Use these six tips to improve your home air quality significantly and keep it that way. Read on!

Do you sometimes feel that the air in your home is “stale” and has an unpleasant smell? Such air can cause and worsen allergy symptoms and make your home a less comfortable place to enjoy.

As we spend most of our time indoors (a contributing factor is the rise of freelance jobs and a market where people can easily work from home), the quality of the air we breathe in is immeasurable.

We’ll provide you with some tips to improve your health and the quality of the air you breathe in your home or office every day.

Get Rid of the Smell and Tobacco Smoke

Avoid smoking in the house. Cigarettes and tobacco smoke contain high concentrations of indoor pollutants that can negatively affect the air quality in your home and your health.

To freshen the air in your home, boil a pot of water with a few spices, such as cloves, cinnamon, or vanilla, to make your home smell good.

You can also use essential oils and diffusers to prevent odors in the air, and, of course, use an air purifier to remove odors.

Use Air Purifiers

Using an air purifier can significantly improve the air quality in your home. Air purifiers use a special type of air filtration system that removes pollutants from the air.

If you have a problem with unpleasant odors in the house, regular home air purifiers not only have a HEPA filter to “capture” particles but also a charcoal-based activated carbon filter that absorbs those unpleasant odors and all the chemicals in the air.

You’ll finally have the fresh air you yearn for, and can enjoy every moment spent at home.

Get Rid of Allergens and Dust Mites

While allergens are constantly circulating in the air, dust mites mainly live on mattresses, bed linen, upholstered furniture, carpets, and curtains, and in darker rooms where there is moisture on the floor and walls.

That’s why we recommend these simple steps to prevent them from forming and spreading:

  • Tip 1: Wash all blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys at 60 degrees.
  • Tip 2: Vacuum all beds and mattresses, thoroughly if possible. They are an ideal breeding ground for mites.
  • Tip 3: Spray against dust mites and allergens, use anti-allergic bedding and ventilate the bedroom daily.
  • Tip 4: Avoid excess textiles in the home, such as bedspreads, blankets, pillows, and curtains.
  • Tip 5: Change your bedding often.
  • Tip 6: Vacuum the carpets regularly.
  • Tip 7: Dry your laundry outside, and if you dry it at home, always with an open window. It is best to machine dry it, as allergens and dust mites can only “stick” to wet laundry.

Moreover, to get rid of unpleasant odors of stale air, increase the circulation of fresh air in your home. Open your windows and doors to let fresh air in.

On summer and spring days, check the pollen index to make sure the days you choose to air your home are low pollen days, so you don’t invite these little allergens inside.

Add Houseplants

Use houseplants to beautify your interior while improving air quality. Plants are natural air purifiers; if you place them in every room, you will significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other pollutants in your home.

Consider plants that should not be watered often. Overwatering your plants can lead to increased humidity, and bacterial and mold growth. Popular indoor plants that improve air quality include the aloe plant, spider plant, and snake plant.

Use Non-toxic and Environmentally Friendly Household Cleaners

Many chemical household cleaners contain solvents that can be toxic to health. These same cleaners can also contaminate the air and water in your home. Use non-toxic and environmentally friendly cleaning solutions to prevent air pollution in your home.

Open windows and increase air circulation when using any cleaning products in the house to protect your health.

Thankfully, there are such products in abundance as more and more people are becoming aware of the toxic chemicals they use every day. And the price difference is minimal, considering the positive effects.

Cleaning Carpet and Hardwood

Every week, vacuum the carpet with a vacuum that has a HEPA filter to increase the number of pollutants removed from the carpet.

Mop hardwood floors several times a week to keep them clean. Mop floors at least once a week to remove dust, dirt, and other debris left over from sweeping.

In the event of water damage, dry all affected hardwood floors within 48 hours and carpet within 24 hours to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

With these useful tips, you’ll breathe with both lungs, and you’ll see an increase in your energy levels and concentration as oxygen flows freely throughout your home.
