Though most of us dread the darker evenings as winter rolls in, colder weather does mean that Christmas is right around the corner – and party season is back.

Now is the perfect time to start planning a Christmas party for you and all your friends to enjoy, whether you opt for a small, intimate affair or a bigger bash.

Before you dive straight in, here are four tips you need to pull off a Christmas party to remember.

Choose a Theme

Themes aren’t just for Halloween parties. Setting a theme for your Christmas party is a great way to make your decorations really stand out – and give your guests a chance to dress up for the evening.

There are dozens of different themes you could choose from. For a classic feel, you could opt for a traditional German or nutcracker theme.

If you wanted a more modern theme, you could try an all-white snow theme, or even pick your favorite Christmas film – and base costumes and decorations around that.

Make It Cozy

It’s likely you’ll be hosting your party on a dark winter evening, so it’s crucial to make sure your guests feel nice and cozy.

An easy way to do this would be stringing up some beautiful indoor Christmas lights around your home.

Alternatively, you could put on a woodburner if you have one to hand.

Get the Food and Drinks Right

Good food and drink can make or break a party, so it’s key to get this part right.

Make sure to provide enough snacks and nibbles to keep people going. Many supermarkets do ready-made packs of finger food which only require heating in the oven to make this task easier.

Even if the party is BYOB, your guests are sure to appreciate some tipples on the house. You could even tie these in with the party theme.

Host Christmas Games

If you want to take your party up a notch, why not host some games or competitions on the night?

You could try an ugly Christmas jumper contest, a murder mystery or even a Christmas film drinking game.

This is also a great way to help guests get to know each other if they don’t already.

With these extra touches, your guests are sure to have a ball at your Christmas party, and leave with plenty of festive spirit.
